Senior Accountant

This hands on position will be responsible for various accounting responsibilities for a midsize internet company. Successful candidate will have interaction with various departments and executive groups. The position reports directly to the Controller.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily/Monthly Reconciliation of Bank and Credit Card accounts and record all related journal entries.
  • Manage payment process for Independent Contracts through Shared Services Center and investigate discrepancies. Record all related accruals.
  • Responsible to analyzing and updating marketing forecast and book monthly Marketing Accruals. Assist Marketing department with purchase order process.
  • Approving purchase requisitions for GL accuracy
  • Update, maintain, and record prepaid expenses
  • Review and approve monthly Purchase Card expenses for multiple cardholders.
  • Review AP distributions for invoice and GL accuracy. Record AP invoice accruals.
  • Audits expense reports and reconcile expense to GL.
  • Monthly P&L and Balance Sheet analysis for various general ledger accounts.
  • Involvement in company’s Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Assist with requests from internal and external auditors.
  • Assist with special projects and responsibilities as needed.

Requirements:

  • Familiar Minimum three-four years experience
  • B.S. Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Must be Proficient in Excel

Associate Web Application Developer

About.com is looking for a talented software developer to add to its About Tools Development team. An About Tools Developer designs and builds reliable and flexible web-based content creation and management tools as well as feed based systems for both internal and external clients in a dynamic UNIX-based environment.

The ideal candidate will be an active and creative problem solver with a proven interest in software development and programming. This position calls for a motivated team player that believes both in Agile Software Development and leveraging Open Source Solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure for the continued reliable up-time of the About.com service
  • Create world class, cost-effective, web based tools in a full project life-cycle environment: design, build, test, implement, support (including real-time), enhance
  • Continue to proactively improve and enhance the About.com tool-set by bringing new ideas and methods into the team
  • Indirectly and at times directly support end-users of the About.com toolset

Requirements:

  • Familiar with some of the following technologies: Apache, FreeBSD,CGI, HTML, XML, SSI, JavaScript, CSS, SQL
  • UNIX user skills, including a basic understanding of GCC and Makefiles
  • Good C or C++ skills or excellent knowledge of another language and a basic understanding of C or C++
  • Proven ability to learn new programming languages

An About Associate DBA builds, maintains, and operates reliable data-stores and programs in a mixed OS but UNIX-centric development environment in order to maintain the integrity of the About.network.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with web based technologies and understand the business ramifications of accurate, reliable, and easy to access and update data. This position calls for a sharp, motivated, and meticulous team player that believes both in Agile Software Development and leveraging Open Source Solutions.

Responsibilities

Senior Developer, Ad Systems

About.com is looking for a talented software developer to manage and work with its Ad Sales System Development team. Ad Sales System Development team builds, maintains, and operates reliable web Sales and Accounting Support systems in a mixed OS but UNIX-centric development environment in order to maintain About.com's leadership in on-line ad inventory management.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with web based technologies and understand the business ramifications of accurate, reliable, and streamlined sales support systems. This position calls for a motivated and meticulous team player that believes both in Agile Software Development and leveraging Open Source Solutions. This is a hands-on position that requires both active long term product development management and day-to-day operational and internal request support.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure for the continued accuracy and reliability of About's Ad Sales Support systems
  • Work with other team members and divisions to define and implement needed new business systems
  • Continue to proactively improve and enhance About.com's Ad Sales systems
  • Support the end-users of Ad Sales Support systems
  • Support various business units in understanding and resolving key metrics and numbers of the About service
  • Requirements:

Online Product Manager

The Product Manager develops plans and oversees implementation of new features and enhancements (large and small) to the About.com website. The selected candidate should be a positive and active leader, and effective in communicating across technical and non-technical departments. The qualified applicant will have the ability to plan and execute world-class products with strong analytical follow-up.

Representative Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain and enhance the value proposition to About.com website users in order to increase traffic, repeat visits, and profitability
  • Manage existing products and develop new products for the company based on strategic priorities, industry experience, idea generation, company technological capability, staff resources, and site and marketplace research.
  • Manage new product development from strategic planning to implementation and post-launch analysis by working with editorial, marketing, sales, technology and finance.
  • Define and document functional requirements
  • Ensure projects are delivered on schedule and with high quality results.
  • Optimize and analyze product performance and respond quickly to diagnose and correct any problems
  • Remain abreast of competitors and trends in website design and functionality, integrating new technologies into the About.com site as they emerge

Qualifications:

The position requires expertise in website management and business principles combined with an understanding of consumer needs and technology. Specific requirements include:

  • Three (3) or more years of experience in Internet-related product management or website development
  • Five (5) or more years of total experience in marketing, technology or product development roles
  • Experience leading website development projects: defining and communicating specifications, managing resources, leading cross-functional teams and managing on-time implementation
  • Superior ability to manage short- and long-term projects simultaneously, trading-off resources to achieve company objectives
  • Knowledge of design principles and best practices in user experience design, website navigation, information architecture, and traffic retention.

Client Services Account Planner, Chicago

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Account Executives to prepare proposals, lead generation, facilitate front-end account maintenance throughout the campaign and sell to clients within the assigned territory to achieve quarterly revenue goals.
  • Draft proposals and RFP for presentations to clients; arrange client meetings and follow-ups.
  • Generate and qualify a list of leads consisting of Tier 1 and Tier 2 decision makers within the assigned territory through research, trade references and cold calls.
  • Outbound telemarketing, prospecting and selling to targets determined by Account Executive and Multi-Media Sales Director.
  • Communicate and follow up with clients and internal departments regarding live campaigns to address any concerns.
  • Review monthly Revenue Sheet to ensure all placements have properly delivered per the IO and revenue has been appropriately recognized.
  • Alert Finance of any issues to be resolved. Acquire proper internal and client approvals to process documents for optimizations, revisions, make goods, cancellations and renewals.
  • Research user data and audience metrics via research tools such as AdRelevance, @Plan, Digimine, Hoovers, etc. for preparing proposals as needed.
  • This position reports to the Multi Media Sales Director.

Requirements:

  • 2 + years experience in advertising sales support and/or internet advertising is required.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential to the role
  • A strong attention to detail and strong work ethic.
  • College degree required.
